If we’re going to talk about being a Digital Citizen, I had to think about what word was going to be a challenge for the students in my class: citizen. To preempt the confusion that will come when we start talking about being a Digital Citizen, I decided to plant the word, citizen, into our class constitution (This constitution will also play a vital role in positive interactions online later.) Check out the side note to see I how construct this constitution with the students.
Here’s the Class Constitution from this year.
Here’s the one from last year. Can you spot the difference?
Using the word, citizen, from the beginning of the year allowed me to have the discussion about what it means to be a citizen of a classroom community. Which in turn, will help me when I discuss digital citizenship.
